Learning difficulties are a general term that describes a wide range of neurobiological disorders that affect an individual’s ability to learn, process, or effectively use information. These difficulties are not due to low intelligence, lack of motivation, or inadequate teaching, but are related to differences in the way the brain functions. Children and adults with learning difficulties often face significant challenges in basic academic skills, such as reading, writing, spelling, math, text comprehension, or memory and information management. These difficulties affect not only school performance but also thought organization, self-care (e.g., organizing a backpack or desk), time management, and social participation.

In the context of occupational therapy, we strengthen the child’s graphomotor, visual-perceptual, and executive skills, support attention and self-regulation, and work through functional, targeted activities.
